Frequently Asked Questions

When is the best time to see my baby?

Anytime is a good time to see your little miracle, however, you will be in awe of what you see throughout the different stages of your pregnancy. This is one of the reasons we offer a " Watch me grow " double sonar package. An early scan between 16 and 25 weeks is a good time to have the 1st scan and also let you see that little heart beating strongly. From 26 to 33 weeks your baby has put on sufficient weight that his skin is starting to become smooth ,as he puts on baby fat. At this stage you will be able to see clearer facial features, little fingers and toes and other little antics he/she may be getting up to at that time.

Does this replace my visit to my doctor/midwife?

NO, not in any way! Our 4 D sonars are non-diagnostic, which means that no measurements will be done, and no assessments will be made.We will not look for any abnormalities regarding baby. This is a boutique sonar, which means we only do the "pretty pictures". Your doctor is responsible for the well being and growth of your baby.

What must I wear for the sonar?

Comfortable 2 piece clothing to easily get to your pregnant belly :)

Will my medical aid pay for the sonar?

NO, because this is a non-diagnostic sonar, your medical aid will not pay for any costs regarding a 4D sonar.

How does payment work?

Either cash on the day of your appointment, or an EFT ( Electronic Funds Transfer) prior to your appointment.

Is it always possible to get clear images of my baby?

Unfortunately not always. There are some factors contributing to getting clear images of your baby. There must be enough amniotic fluid surrounding baby's face to get great pictures, and the placental location also plays a role. If the placenta is lying over baby's face it will be difficult to get good pictures. If your baby is not lying in a good position, we will ask you to do a simple exercise or go for a short walk to encourage baby to change position.

Is there anything I can do to make sure we get clear pictures of baby?

YES, by drinking lots of water from one week prior to your appointment you give your amniotic fluid a boost. You may also eat a chocolate or drink a cup of coffee 20 minutes prior to your appointment to insure baby is awake during the sonar.

Is it safe to be exposed to ultrasound during pregnancy?

Today's research has shown that there are no known side effects due to been exposed to ultrasound sound waves. Our 3D/4D ultrasounds use the same frequency of wave lengths as are used for your regular 2D medical scans.

Do I need to make an appointment?

YES, appointments are essential.

How much time should I allow for my appointment?

We schedule 1 hour appointments, but scanning usually takes less than 30 minutes, depending on baby's position and movements. Exporting the images and videos to your USB disk takes less than 5 minutes.
